Sean Scully was born in Dublin in 1945 and currently works between studios in New York, Barcelona and London. He is one of the most distinctive and celebrated artists working today, instantly recognisable for the striped and chequered rhythms of his very personal brand of abstract art. Yet for all their familiarity his paintings are always more surprising, more commanding, more complex and more beautiful than first seems possible. Scully's work has been exhibited and collected by most of the major museums of the world, this is his first exhibition in Scotland.
