This first large-scale survey exhibition of work by Scottish artist Davd Batchelor, Colour Is, celebrates over three-decades of working with colour in a range of media.
The exhibition starts at the beginning of Batchelor's career with his pre-colour works from the 1980s, before moving into his earliest experiments with colour and found objects in the ‘90s, and vivid multimedia installations during the 2000s. The exhibition culminates with recent work, including a glowing animation, in which sentences beginning with the words ‘Colour is …’ are projected in a continuously changing colour-saturated space.
Colour Is includes several works from Batchelor's studio which have never been displayed in public, as well as archive material, including preparatory sketches and notebooks, which shed light on his working methods and sources of inspiration.
